Web Design

We start the Web Design process by first addressing the site architecture. Initially there are no colors, fonts or graphics - just elements representing the major components of your Website. Website Usability
Internet surfers can afford to be choosey; there are many alternative web sites to be viewed. Users need to be able to scan through your information without having to read all of your content. This was summed up by one internet user "if I read all of the information on a website I feel like I am being un-productive". Websites need to be user-friendly. Your clients need to be able to rapidly scan through your information, swiftly and easily navigate through your website to the pages they need to find.

Accessibility
As well as the obvious implications of usability there are two fold examples of accessibility. Firstly you could be reducing your internet traffic and secondly your website could be illegal.
Did you know that different computers can display your website in an entirely different format?
What might work on your computer may not work for someone on an alternative machine. If someone offered to increase your business by 25% it is highly likely that you would use the opportunity. Only 75% of internet users browse the internet with Microsoft's Internet Explorer. That means that if your website is built without the proper consideration to accessibility you could effectively be reducing your target market by 25%. Did you know that if your website isn't accessible you could be breaking the law?
Under the new amendments to the Disability Discrimination Act most UK websites are now running illegally (as of 1st October 2004). The Act makes it "unlawful for a service provider to discriminate against a disabled person by refusing to provide any service which it provides to members of the public", specifically mentioning websites.
A formal investigation in April 2004 found over 80% failed to provide even the most basic access to disabled users. Companies face the threat of legal action and unlimited compensation payments if they fail to comply with new legislation.
